
In a tragic turn of events, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that a pedestrian collision resulted in the city's 63rd traffic-related fatality this year. The incident on W. Warm Springs Road, just east of S. Mann Street, involved a Volkswagen Passat, which veered off its lane, striking a pedestrian and a luminary support, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The collision occurred on tuesday evening, and police investigations, alongside witness statements and Tesla camera footage, have provided an account of the events. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the 2008 Volkswagen was traveling westbound when it departed from its intended path, surging onto the sidewalk where the pedestrian, then walking east, met an untimely and tragic end; the Passat after striking the pedestrian went on to reenter the roadway finally coming to halt in the travel lanes. The driver, Daniel Stakleff, showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested on DUI-related charges.
Upon arrival, medical personnel quickly ascertained that the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and pronounced him dead at the scene. While the pedestrian's identity has yet to be disclosed, pending notification of next of kin, the driver, a 38-year-old Las Vegas resident, sustained minor injuries. The collision is currently being investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section to discern the events leading to this fatal outcome.
Stakleff now faces grave charges for his role in the crash, including DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death, as he remained on-site following the accident; indications of impairment were evident, leading to his arrest amidst the dire consequences of the collision.
