A wanted fugitive was captured south of Las Vegas earlier this month after several dangerous pursuits. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department, working with the FBI Criminal Apprehension Team, used a police tool called The Grappler to safely stop the suspect.
A 10-time convicted felon evaded capture by law enforcement in Thurston County, Washington, after multiple vehicular pursuits. During a chase in Tenino, WA, "he leaned out of a fleeing vehicle and fired an AR-15 at pursuing deputies, disabling their patrol car," as reported by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. No injuries were reported. The suspect was safely apprehended on last Tuesday.
The Grappler is a device that ends vehicle pursuits by deploying a tether around a fleeing car’s rear wheel to bring it to a stop. According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department on their Facebook page, the recent capture of a fugitive using The Grappler involved cooperation between multiple agencies. The department stated, "We’re proud to support our law enforcement partners across the country and help bring violent offenders to justice."
