Just as the sun dipped behind the horizon last Saturday evening, a group of six hikers found themselves in a precarious situation on Kraft Mountain. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue unit was summoned to the scene around 6 p.m., when the group, scrambling on the mountain's rugged east side, realized they were unable to safely descend.

Facing the encroaching darkness and with weather conditions deteriorating, the hikers wisely chose to call for help rather than risk a perilous nighttime descent. Though uninjured, their predicament marks a clear reminder of nature's unforgiving terrain and the need for preparedness. In a Instagram post by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue detailed the response effort.

A pair of SAR officers, accompanied by three Mountain Rescue volunteers, made their way to the trailhead and approached the hikers' location. The response team, known for their skill in handling such situations, forged through undulating landscapes to reach the stranded hikers. As noted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue online recap, "They accessed the victims and were able to safely get them off the mountain after several hours, utilizing rope systems in technical sections."
