In a move reinforcing their commitment to community safety and seasoned leadership, the NC Department of Adult Correction has advanced Lewis Adams into the role of Division Director for Judicial Division 1 as of yesterday. Adams, with over three decades of experience, is now charged with the oversight of Community Supervision across an expansive territory covering 32 counties in eastern and coastal North Carolina, as stated on their official website.
Leslie Cooley Dismukes, the Secretary for the Department of Adult Correction, expressed confidence in Adams' new role and his established dedication to public safety and the continued team effort in his district, according to the press release. Reflecting this sentiment, Tracy K. Lee, Deputy Secretary for Community Supervision, remarked with approval on Adams' promotion highlighting his enduring dedication and the precision crafted by years of public service, his newfound leadership responsibilities will bear the mark of his perseverance and preparedness.
Adams began his career with NCDAC in 1992 starting from the position of a probation/parole officer in Richmond County; he has since navigated the complexities of roles such as an intensive probation/parole officer and chief probation officer in various counties, including Durham and New Hanover. His journey mapping the state's correctional landscape led to his 2011 promotion as the assistant director of Division 2 before landing his current role.
A product of North Carolina, Adams holds a bachelor's degree in political science from UNC-Pembroke and is further equipped with credentials from the NCDAC Correctional Leadership Development Program; in addition, he is certified as a general instructor and firearms instructor within the department. "I’m pleased to promote Lewis to this leadership position,” Tracy K. Lee told the NCDAC, highlighting Adams' extensive service and expressing expectations for his contributions as Division Director of the expanding Judicial Division 1, which covers a large portion of the North Carolina coastline.
