Lewisville is set to break out the picnic blankets and celebrate a milestone in true community style. Residents and anyone with a heart for the city are poised to gather for a Centennial Picnic, grandly marking the city's 100th anniversary. The event is on the calendar for Saturday, May 17, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., taking place at the fittingly historical Memorial Park and Thrive located at 1950 S. Valley Parkway.
As the City of Lewisville announces, the celebration includes more than just an open invite to lay down a spread on the grass. The day promises a dive into local history, a backdrop of live music echoing through the decades, and inflatable fun that's certain to wear out the kids. If the playground doesn’t do it first. The promise of free hot dogs, chips, and beverages, courtesy of the Lewisville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (LCPAAA), ensures no one goes hungry. But if hot dogs aren't your thing, worry not. Attendees can also bring along their picnic feast, rounding out the sense of shared, homegrown community festivity.
Music is a principal feature of the event, with the Old Town Brass Band setting the stage (from 11-11:30 a.m.) with tunes from the 1920s and '30s. Then, taking the baton, Big City Outlaws amps up the energy, delivering popular hits across the times and genres, from 11:45 a.m. to the event's close at 1 p.m. To cool off, the first 500 folks to arrive will be treated to free Kona-Ice, a chill treat in a special Lewisville Centennial cup.
