A Sanford home was set ablaze after a direct lightning strike, as confirmed by the Seminole County Fire Department. The fire ignited last night within the confines of an upscale gated community on Northumbria Drive. According to a report by WFTV, the lightning strike caused the house to become "fully involved with smoke coming from the attic."
No residents were harmed during the incident. The fire departments from Longwood, Oviedo, and Sanford were all dispatched to the scene to aid in controlling the blaze. The Seminole County Fire Department clarified that upon arrival, the first response team witnessed "an active fire with smoke and flames visible from the roof," a detail relayed by WESH.
The emergency was first reported at approximately 7:28 p.m. when the initial 911 caller suspected a lightning strike as the cause of an erupting fire. The fire officials later substantiated this suspicion. The coordination between multiple fire departments resulted in a swift response and facilitated prompt efforts to extinguish the fire.
