The Livingston Police Department has reported an arrest in a case of severe domestic violence. Last Thursday, Avery Gilpatrick allegedly carried out a brutal attack against a victim in their shared residence. During the assault, Gilpatrick is accused of hitting and kicking the victim, escalating the violence by throwing an office chair and menacing the victim with a spear. Additionally, it is claimed that he blocked the victim's attempt to call for help by taking her phone away.
A statement from the Livingston Police Department, shared on social media, details how the incident further spiraled with Gilpatrick reportedly choking and kicking the victim when she tried to escape. In a desperate bid for safety the following morning, the victim convinced Gilpatrick she needed to go to work, which allowed her to escape and find refuge with a neighbor, who contacted authorities. The police, with assistance from the Overton County Sheriff's Department arrested Gilpatrick at the residence, where signs of the altercation and weapons, including a spear, were visible.
Gilpatrick now faces multiple charges including Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Possession of Methamphetamine, according to the Livingston Police Department's social media post. The presence of drugs was confirmed upon a safety sweep of the residence, which revealed a line of an unidentified clear substance and multiple unlabeled pill bottles. Gilpatrick was booked into the Overton County Jail on a $75,000 bond, and his court date is scheduled for tomorrow.
