In a routine enforcement maneuver turned drug bust, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Watercraft Enforcement Team has made headlines with their latest arrest on the Black River. In a display of heightened patrol efforts, deputies conducting a watercraft safety check seized a boat and apprehended 36-year-old Cory Funk for possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

According to the official social media post by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest occurred last Thursday as part of the Northern Border Initiative, a collaborative security program aimed at protecting our nation’s Northern Border. While Funk, a North Ridgeville resident, had a firearm in possession, no charges were filed for the firearm as the subject was not under a disability at the time.

The seized boat, which Funk does not own, has led deputies on a search to locate the rightful owner and to determine the legality of Funk's possession at the time of arrest. Presently, the boat remains in the impound lot of the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. Funk now faces drug-related charges and is being held on bond at the Lorain County Jail, awaiting his appearance before the Lorain Municipal Court.
