In a recent turn of events, Lori Vallow Daybell, the woman found guilty last month of conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her former husband, Charles Vallow, has filed motions for a new trial. Her defense claims include allegations of juror misconduct and prosecutorial missteps. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, one juror had prior knowledge of Daybell's convictions in Idaho—information that jurors were supposed to be kept in the dark about during the trial.
Daybell's request cites that a juror, referred to as Juror 15, after the trial was completed, had revealed inside knowledge of her history, prompting concerns about trial integrity. This juror's alleged prior knowledge pertains to Daybell's 2023 conviction for the killing of her children, Tylee Ryan and JJ Vallow—an aspect not presented in the Arizona proceedings.
As ABC15 reports, the motion for a new trial also encompasses claims of discovery violations and prosecutorial misconduct. It strenuously notes that Daybell did not take the stand in her defense, nor was her previous conviction discussed during the trial, thereby questioning how Juror 15 came by such prejudicial information.
While awaiting a court's ruling on this motion, the legal saga for Daybell is far from over, with another trial looming on the horizon in Arizona. Accused of having a hand in the plot to kill her niece's ex-husband back in 2019, her attorneys are preparing for a trial scheduled to begin next month. According to the information obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, the status conference for the case is slated for May 14.
