
Last Saturday, a man was arrested in Northwest D.C. on charges related to a hate/bias-related assault. The incident involved a food delivery driver who was chased with a knife and subjected to derogatory insults, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Third District officers responded to a call just before 10 p.m. in the 800 block of P Street, Northwest. One suspect was seen chasing the victim with a knife, while a second suspect damaged the victim's bicycle by puncturing its tires. The suspects were also reported to have made derogatory comments toward the victim. One suspect was quickly apprehended by officers, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Pedro Sanmayoa-Garcia, 29, was arrested for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) at the scene of an incident. The search for a second involved individual is ongoing. The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information to call (202) 727-9099 or text the tip line at 50411, with a reward of up to $10,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction. The incident is currently being investigated for a possible hate or bias motivation, but this classification may change as more information becomes available.
