A 56-year-old man, Terry Lee Boss, has been charged with second-degree murder among other felonies in connection to a crash that claimed the life of an 8-month-old baby, Lucia Iris Seifried. The incident occurred on April 26 near Baseline Lake in Allegan County. Boss, who was allegedly operating his vehicle while intoxicated, is accused of losing control of his truck, crossing the center line, and hitting a group of people, including the infant. According to WZZM13, the collision forced his pickup truck off the road and into the nearby yard where the victim was present with her family.
In a report by MLive, the baby's father, Matthew Seifried, shared the traumatic experience: "On Saturday, my family and I were sitting in our yard watching the sun set when a drunk driver lost control of his truck and hit us," Seifried said. "One minute our baby girl was playing in the grass, the next minute she was holding Jesus’ hand." Despite the grief, Seifried expressed gratitude for the moments they shared with Lucia, whose life was celebrated in a funeral early this month.
Following the incident, Boss faced charges including second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death, and reckless driving causing death during his arraignment today, as reported by WOODTV.
Additional individuals affected in the incident included one person who was playing with the baby and two people who were in Boss' truck, all of whom were hospitalized. Alcohol and speed are believed to have played roles in the fatal crash, as per the preliminary investigation by the authorities.
