Witnesses at the scene described a confrontation between two men that quickly turned physical, ultimately resulting in one of them producing a weapon and firing six times. The victim was hit several times in the abdomen, while the suspect also managed to shoot himself in the hand. "A known suspect approached him," 8th Precinct Commander Dietrich Lever said. "There was a verbal dispute. There was a physical dispute. The suspect produced a weapon. He shot six times, striking the victim several times in the abdomen and striking himself in the hand once," as detailed by Audacy.

The suspect fled the scene in a silver vehicle with black paneling. However, he didn't get far. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the police were able to take him into custody shortly after as he sought treatment for his injured hand. In addition to the details of the dispute and ensuing altercation, authorities also disclosed that the victim was intoxicated at the time of the shooting.

Both the victim and the suspect were hospitalized following the violent confrontation. While the victim’s condition was not released, he was described as being in critical condition.
