On Monday night at 11 p.m., a man was shot and killed outside the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in NW Harris County after a confrontation with Sheriff's deputies. The incident began when security asked the man, who had been sleeping in his vehicle, to leave. When he refused, deputies were called to assist. Attempts to engage him were ignored, and the vehicle window was broken to facilitate his removal. A Taser was deployed, but it was not fully effective, leading to the shooting, according to Click2Houston.
Deputies attempted to remove a man who resisted. The man then pulled out a large butcher knife. Believing they were in danger, two deputies, aged 29 and 25 with 7.5 and 6.5 years of service, shot and killed the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by KHOU.
Deputies responded to a man whose vehicle was rolling because it wasn't in park. Assistant Chief John Nanny stated, "As soon as they pulled him out of the vehicle, he had a butcher knife in his hand, pretty large knife." "And at that point, the deputies discharged their firearms in fear for their lives," as mentioned by KHOU. No deputies were injured. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Division are investigating the incident. Body camera footage will be released within 45 days, as per department policy. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
