In a grim incident late on Monday night, a man in his mid-50s was killed in a hit-and-run in the back parking lot of a Walgreens on Merrill Road, Arlington. As Action News Jax reports, the Jacksonville Police were called to the scene at approximately 11:45 p.m., where the man was found having been dragged a short distance by the vehicle before it fled.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is currently searching for the driver involved in the incident, as per the details shared by News4Jax. The victim was discovered unresponsive and was pronounced dead by the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department upon their arrival at the scene, where he evidently died due to the impact and subsequent dragging, the vehicle was nowhere to be seen. This tragic event has marked the 70th traffic-related death in Duval County for the year 2025.
While the authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim or a description of the suspect and vehicle, this act of violence is a chilling reminder of the fragility of life on the city’s roadways. Sergeant Robert Hungerford of the JSO said, "It appears the male was struck by a vehicle which then fled the scene," in a statement relayed by First Coast News.
