
A man was injured after a sailboat exploded in Anne Arundel County earlier this morning. WMAR2 News reported that the incident occurred in the 4800 block of Woods Wharf in Shady Side, where fire officials say they received a report of a possible explosion on a sailboat. The fire units that responded did not encounter an active fire; however, one individual who was on the boat at the time of the incident did suffer injuries.
The injured man was transported to a burn center with life-threatening injuries, according to WMAR2 News. Further investigation by fire officials into the explosion revealed that an undefined gas source on the sailboat came into contact with an ignition source, leading to the explosion. Despite the explosion's severity, the boat is reported to be still afloat and is not considered an environmental hazard.
Additional details from WBALTV noted that Anne Arundel County fire crews were on the scene around 9:30 a.m. to address the reported explosion. Although a fire was not found, emergency medical services evaluated a victim for possible burns. As of now, no update on the victim's condition has been provided. Anne Arundel County Fire Investigators are still working to determine the initial cause of this incident.
