The work, which is set to start on May 12, will take place along the 500 block of N. Riverfront Drive near Elm Street. With an aim to wrap up by May 16, the project is a response to a detected gas leak at 523 N. Riverfront Drive. This maintenance initiative, following a temporary fix, involves replacing the service pipe and shifting its path to connect with the gas main located in the area's alleyway.
Local commuters and businesses could see a slight disruption due to the closures. Portions of the parking lane on the 500 block of North Riverfront Drive and the alley behind the impacted building will not be accessible. Despite the inconvenience, storefronts south of the repair zone will remain reachable via the south alley entry. Likewise, the parking lot at 529 N. Riverfront Drive will still welcome vehicles, albeit through the north entrance. Pedestrians can breathe a sigh of relief, as all sidewalks lining Riverfront Drive are expected to stay open throughout the duration of the repairs.
