As Memorial Day weekend approaches, families in Mecklenburg County can start planning for some fun in the sun. According to a release posted by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation on their official website, summer hours and operations for the county's outdoor water attractions will begin at the end of May.

The season kicks off with spraygrounds across the county operating daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., beginning May 26 through Labor Day on September 1. Cordelia Pool will start with weekend hours from May 24 to June 10, and then switch to its summer schedule which includes Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. From August 22 to September 1, however, the facility will revert back to weekend-only hours.

Cordelia Pool is not just a place to cool off, but also an educational springboard. The pool offers free swim lessons for children ages 3 to 15. "Free swim lessons for kids ages 3-15 will be offered at Cordelia Park on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays," the announcement by Mecklenburg County detailed. Interested parties should mark their calendars as registration for the lessons opens on June 21 at 9 a.m., with the first session beginning on June 23.

Meanwhile, over at the Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center, a similar summer schedule will commence. After initial weekend-only operations from May 24 to June 11, the center will open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting June 12. Just like Cordelia Pool, come late August through Labor Day the center is open only on weekends. "A $2 entry fee is required to use Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center," reminds Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, and, lessons for the little ones are available there as well.

For beachgoers, Ramsey Creek Beach readies its shores for visitors every weekend from May 24 to June 12. Its official summer schedule allows for Wednesdays through Sundays by the water, beginning June 13. Once more, as summer winds down, the beach will only be accessible on weekends from August 22 to September 1. The beach's location is cordially provided as 18441 Nantz Road in Cornelius, with a note that entry fees vary.

In honor of holidays that symbolize freedom and reflection, these water attractions will also be open on May 26 (Memorial Day), June 19 (Juneteenth), and July 4 (Independence Day). It seems the county has laid out a summer blueprint for both jubilation and reprieve. So whether you're in it for a splash, a swim lesson, or a sandy stroll, Mecklenburg County parks and recreation beckons with the promise of aquatic delights this coming summer.
