In a swift response to rising crime rates, the Memphis Police Department launched Operation Code Zero, a crackdown that saw over 120 individuals arrested in a matter of hours. According to a recent social media post by the department, the operation led to the apprehension of 72 felons, among others.
The operation, marked by its intensity and broad scope, did not solely focus on arrests. While carrying illegal firearms and dangerous drugs, including fentanyl, officers of the Memphis police also managed to seize these items. In their effort to curb disruptive driving behavior, they also towed four vehicles implicated in reckless driving and drag racing and recovered a vehicle reported stolen, as per the Memphis Police Department. The department further indicated that more than 30 businesses were visited as part of an initiative to strengthen safety and nurture community partnerships.
"We’re taking action to make our streets safer and our communities stronger," the Memphis Police Department stated.
