Big news breaking in the auto industry as Governor Brian P. Kemp announces that Mercedes-Benz is solidifying its American presence in Atlanta. Mercedes-Benz is centralizing major company operations by establishing their North American headquarters in the heart of Georgia. This move entails the transition of up to 500 jobs to the "1MB" facility in Fulton County, which has been part of the community since 2018. Alongside, the luxury car manufacturer is pouring investment into a new, advanced Research & Development (R&D) hub to further entrench its American work in the Atlanta metro, according to the official press release.
"Georgia continues to lead the way in the future of mobility and technical innovation," Governor Kemp said, speaking to the state's receptivity to technological advancements in the automotive sector. "We're excited that a job creator that already has close ties to Georgia is doubling down on that choice and growing their presence here," Kemp added in a press release. This significant development is seen as a forward stride by the state government, keen on showcasing Georgia as a prime destination for tech-heavy, future-oriented businesses.
The current "1MB" facility, positioned in Sandy Springs, is anticipated to combine the existing workforce with newly relocated sales, financial services teams, and corporate functions. CEO of Mercedes-Benz North America, Jason Hoff, reinforced the company's commitment: "This strengthens our position for continued growth and reinforces our established commitment to the U.S. market." Hoff emphasized in a press release that tightening the company's operational ranks in Atlanta will foster agility and ensure superior customer satisfaction.
Support and excitement for this expansion aren't limited to the state capital. Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul and Fulton County authorities observe significant milestones in local development following Mercedes-Benz's decision. "Since establishing their headquarters here in 2018, they have been outstanding corporate partners," Mayor Paul told those in attendance at the announcement. The full transition and opening of the R&D hub are projected for completion by August 2026.
The choice of Atlanta for Mercedes-Benz's next big step is a nod to the city’s infrastructure and the regional drive for innovation, attracting global brands. Katie Kirkpatrick, President & CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, views this as a testament to the ongoing partnership between the city and the renowned automaker. "We are proud to see this partnership deepen as Mercedes-Benz continues to invest in our future shared success," Kirkpatrick expressed in a press release. The expansion is not just a win for Mercedes-Benz, but for the larger Atlanta business landscape and its stature as a hub that can lure and sustain industry giants.
