Over two years after a residential burglary took place in Southeast D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department has brought the curtains down on this cold case with an arrest. In a case that puzzled residents and local enforcement alike, the suspect behind the 2023 breach of peace and property has been apprehended.
The burglary occurred between the night of April 17, 2023, and the morning of April 18, 2023. The intruder crept into a home on the 100 block of I Street, Southeast, while occupants likely slept, unaware. The suspect, identified later as Courtland Monroe, a 27-year-old resident of Silver Spring, MD, managed to slip away with undisclosed property before making his exit, as per the original release by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Yesterday, following the issuance of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, MPD officers took Monroe into custody. He faces charges for Burglary One. More details on this case are expected as the court proceedings begin and the legal process moves forward.
