
The Metropolitan Police Department continues its investigation into a tragic shooting in the Petworth neighborhood that claimed the life of a young man and left others injured. The incident took place on Tuesday when police were summoned to the scenes of gunfire detected on the 800 block of Taylor Street and the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest.
Upon officers' rapid response to the reported gunshots at around 9:01 PM, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds on Georgia Avenue. An adult male, later pronounced deceased at the hospital despite exhaustive lifesaving efforts, and a 15-year-old juvenile were the victims of this violence. Authorities have identified the deceased as 19-year-old Zephaniah Wright of Northeast, D.C. In addition, a third adult male victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries after arriving at the hospital by his means; this victim is believed to have been wounded on Taylor Street.
As reported by MPD's official announcement, a suspect vehicle connected to the incident was located, though it was found unoccupied. This grim case remains actively under investigation, with detectives working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and to identify those responsible.
