
The search is on for a person of interest after a gunfire incident in Southeast D.C., with local authorities turning to the community for assistance. Diving into the details of a concerning event that unfolded on May 3, as per the Metropolitan Police Department's statement on their website.
According to the official MPD report, shots rang out around 5:40 p.m. in the 4600 block of Hillside Road, Southeast. Sixth District officers, in response to the sounds of gunfire, arrived at the location to find shell casings but thankfully no injuries. While the suspect, captured on surveillance footage, did not stick around, a black GMC truck was seen fleeing the scene.
The quest to identify the person responsible has led the MPD to release video evidence. The surveillance footage, which features both the person of interest and the associated vehicle, can be viewed by the public via a link provided by the department – an attempt to leverage community engagement in the hunt for clues. "The person of interest and vehicle were captured by surveillance cameras and can be seen in this video," noted the MPD statement.
Facing a situation where any piece of information might be the key to resolution, the MPD is offering a cash incentive. Informants can expect a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment in connection with the crime. Those with knowledge relating to the individual or vehicle in question are encouraged to call (202) 727-9099 or to forward their tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, thereby ensuring anonymity and safety in the process of aiding law enforcement.
