The Metropolitan Police Department is reaching out to the public for help in tracking down a vehicle involved in a serious hit-and-run incident in Southeast Washington. On a Saturday night, just before the clock struck 1 a.m., a man was hit by a car on Southern Avenue, resulting in potentially fatal injuries. The incident, which occurred on April 19, has spurred an active search for the elusive driver. The department has released photos and footage from a nearby surveillance camera showing the suspect's vehicle in hopes that someone might recognize it and come forward.
Local authorities were summoned to the 4200 block of Southern Avenue, and upon arrival they found an injured pedestrian, who was then still breathing, although unconscious. The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by DC Fire and EMS. According to the police report, the car that hit him failed to stop and fled the scene, leaving the man in critical condition.
The community's assistance is crucial now, more than ever. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or any details about the incident to reach out and provide their insights. Confidentiality and safety are ensured, as individuals are advised not to approach the possible suspect but instead to relay their tips to the relevant forces, ensuring a measured and lawful pursuit.
In an effort to encourage community cooperation, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a monetary reward. "The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia," detailed the official Metropolitan Police Department report.
