A Michigan man, Caleb James-Lorenze Simpson, aged 36, has been sentenced to a prison stint ranging from 10½ to 25 years for his involvement in the 2022 violent robbery of a comic book store, according to Bucks County officials. Simpson, from Clarklake, Michigan, and his co-defendant, Zackery Maximus Tucker, 23, of Quincy, Michigan, were implicated in the September 2022 crime at the Comic Collection bookstore in Lower Southampton Township.
Details released by Bucks County's official announcement state that Simpson pleaded guilty in March to charges that included robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and aggravated assault. His co-defendant, Tucker, was previously sentenced on March 14 to receive five to 12 years in state prison. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $20,029.88, in addition to a mandate of no contact with the victim or their family and the Comic Collection store.
As part of the proceedings, Simpson faces the aforementioned prison time and has also been handed down a concurrent term of 20 years of probation. The case, which has taken years to navigate through the legal system, highlights the severe consequences of engaging in such criminal activities, particularly when they involve violence and the threat of harm to others.
Both perpetrators' sentencings mark the close of an ordeal that has likely left an indelible mark on the victims and the Lower Southampton Township community, especially those centered around the niche comic bookstore that serves as a hub for enthusiasts and collectors. Restitution and prison time offer a measure of justice, although full recovery from such an event extends beyond the confines of the court's rulings.
