A Midland man and his dog perished in a raging apartment fire early yesterday morning. The blaze erupted in building 810 at the Village at Joseph's Run, according to statements obtained by ABC12.
Upon receiving reports of an individual trapped inside, the Midland Fire Department responded to the scene. "Residents outside reported an occupant still trapped inside. Crews, at that time, were able to make entry and pull the victim out quickly," Battalion Chief Kyle Smith informed ABC12. Fire Chief Josh Mosher reported that the teams initiated the rescue upon arrival. Despite their efforts, the man later passed away from critical injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
While three other residents managed to escape the inferno with minor or no injuries, one other dog could not be rescued and was also lost to the flames, as documented by WNEM. After ensuring safety post-extinguishment, the Midland Fire Department allowed residents from unaffected units to return to their apartments.
The fire was contained to a single apartment within the complex, mitigating potential damage to adjacent living spaces. Following the blaze's containment, My Michigan EMS were recognized for their crucial assistance in the immediate aftermath.
The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is still ongoing, with Michigan State Police assisting in the efforts. The identity of the man who lost his life has not yet been released as authorities continue their inquiry, as reported by MLive.
