According to WPXI, the card is being showcased at Ross Park Mall and is accessible to the public briefly between May 9 and 11.
The display setup is far from ordinary, featuring tempered glass and a heavy-duty 1,500-pound safe to protect the prized card. The exclusive piece sits, surrounded by various Pirates memorabilia, which surely adds to the allure for local fans. Constructed specifically for secure showcasing, even the display boasts a steel home plate that pays homage to Pittsburgh's famed industry. "There's like tempered glass that you make sure that it protects the card from the lighting, but also keeps the hyper secure. And then the space around it is like a 1,500-pound safe. So you've got that kind of juxtaposition of experience and safety," Toni Roeller, the Executive Vice President of Experience and Design, explained in an interview posted on WTAE.
With the card's popularity, DICK’S Sporting Goods is using a wristband system to manage crowds efficiently. A limited 500 wristbands will be distributed daily on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8 a.m., with fans eager to glimpse the valuable collectible. "The fanhood of sports is so important for us. And we feel like this brings a special piece of baseball history to our House of Sports store in Pittsburgh," said David Progar, the Senior Vice President of Team Sports licensed and golf, in a statement detailed by WTAE.
