Get ready to stretch, sprint, and savor the great outdoors - Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is ushering in the 2025 Healthy County Challenge. This public health movement, as reported on the official county website, is a collaborative endeavor with the Milwaukee Parks Foundation, set to bring a series of free and engaging activities to over ten County Parks this summer.
Now in its fourth year and established back in 2022, the Healthy County Challenge is not just about physical fitness but also mental wellness and fostering a sense of community, the initiative offers a variety of activities ranging from yoga and canoeing to Zumba and basketball, and all these are aimed at motivating Milwaukee County residents to get out into nature.
Research is on the side of this initiative, highlighting the benefits that come from immersing oneself in natural settings for at least two hours weekly; these benefits include significant strides in mental wellbeing. Crowley himself is an avid supporter, pitching the idea as a personal invitation to all residents. "I personally invite all Milwaukee County residents to join me in our beautiful parks this summer to enjoy nature, move our bodies, and recharge our minds," Crowley noted in a statement obtained by the official county website.
Appreciation was also expressed for the community partners who have played their part in the continuity of the Healthy County Challenge, Crowley did not mince words on the importance of their role, "These events would not be possible without our dedicated community partners, and I’m grateful for their continued collaboration and commitment to making this initiative a success year after year," as also reported in the Milwaukee County announcement.
