This weekend, the brave firefighters of Milwaukee are inviting the community to step into their world for a day of learning and celebration. Milwaukee Fire Department's Station 13 swings open its doors on Saturday, May 31, for an Open House event. The community gathering, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2901 N 30th St., marks a moment of pride and history as the department celebrates its 150th anniversary.
In a social media post, MFD details an array of activities planned for the day. Visitors can look forward to engaging with fire apparatus displays, getting an insider’s look through firehouse tours, and participating in fire safety education sessions courtesy of MFD's Mobile Survive Alive House. Also on the agenda are foods and refreshments, face painting for the kids, and even blood pressure checks for those curious about their health. The event will also distribute Narcan and share information on how to obtain free smoke alarms, a critical component in ensuring residential safety. As noted in the Milwaukee Fire Department announcement, the day's events are entirely free, encouraging widespread participation.
Station 13's Open House provides a valuable opportunity for the Milwaukee Fire Department to engage with the community it serves. Education on fire safety, awareness of available resources, and promoting general well-being are just some of the takeaways attendees can expect. Free activities such as the Survive Alive House aim to make understanding fire safety accessible and uncomplicated for all ages. The station's proactive approach to community integration through events like the open house is a testament to their commitment to public service.
"This FREE event is part of Milwaukee Fire Department’s 150th Anniversary celebration – a whole year of honoring our rich history and the incredible community we serve," the Milwaukee Fire Department shared in their Facebook post. The station is eager to welcome families to bring the kiddos, ask questions, and commemorate the day with photos (using the hashtag #MFD150).
