A tragic incident unfolded in Milwaukee last Thursday, where a 13-month-old child drowned in a bathtub at a residence near 53rd and Custer. The mother, 28-year-old Selena Doxzon, has been charged with neglecting a child, resulting in death, after she reportedly left her two sons unsupervised in the bath to prepare breakfast and wash dishes. WISN reported the water level was filled above the younger child Asher Doxzon's belly when seated.
According to the criminal complaint, Doxzon told investigators she had been in the kitchen for approximately four minutes when her 3-year-old son walked in "soaking wet." In distress, she discovered her younger son floating in the water unresponsive and began to scream for help, as per details from CBS 58. The complaint further noted, Doxzon indicated it was a recent decision to bathe her younger son in the bathtub rather than a sink due to his size.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the cause of death as asphyxiation due to drowning. Following the incident, Doxzon has been charged with one count of neglecting a child, causing death, and TMJ4 reports that a judge has set her bond at $10,000.
As the case moves forward, Doxzon is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 30. Amidst the investigation, authorities have not released further details about the case or the events leading up to the drowning. "She'd usually bath her children separately" Doxzon claimed, according to CBS 58, a practice that was not followed on the fateful day.
