A significant fire engulfed an apartment building on Thursday near 85th Street and Fairy Chasm Drive in Milwaukee, leading to extensive smoke damage and the displacement of numerous residents. The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the blaze which originated on the first floor of the eight-unit structure. Efforts to contain the fire included a second alarm call, made as a safety precaution, WISN reports.
All individuals residing in the affected building managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries have been reported among the firefighters who handled the situation. According to CBS58, the Red Cross is stepping in to provide assistance to those residents now without housing, due to the smoke damage inflicted by the fire.
During the firefighting efforts, one person was discovered trapped on the second floor. Fire crews executed a rescue, helping the occupant to safety through a window, as covered by FOX6. The fire which grew to affect both the first and second floors was soon extinguished following the arrival of the firefighters.
The building was reported to be equipped with smoke alarms, though the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. "The Red Cross will be assisting those residents with housing due to extensive smoke damage," Battalion Chief Jeff Collum said, in relief efforts to support the displaced individuals, as the aftermath of the blaze continues to unfold, as per CBS58.
