Attention drivers in the Route 21 area: MoDOT has announced upcoming lane closures that are sure to impact your commute. Beginning next Tuesday, at 6 a.m., you'll need to budget more time or find alternate paths as one lane in each direction over Gravois Creek and Grant’s Trail will be shut down. According to MoDOT, the closures will allow crews to rehabilitate the bridge over Gravois Creek and replace the bridge deck over Grant’s Trail.
The changes will see southbound traffic shift to share the road with northbound vehicles from Tiffany Square Park to Green Park Road/Musick. This is a setup designed to allow to continue the necessary bridge work through the end of the year. If you frequent this route, expect the shifted traffic patterns to become your new normal for the upcoming months.
For those who take their strides and bike rides along Grant's Trail, there's also an advisory you'll want to heed. MoDOT has decided to close the trail on June 3, and June 4, for safety reasons as part of the demolition work on the bridge. Weather-permitting, of course, because when it comes to construction, the only thing as certain as traffic jams is the unpredictability of nature.
But it's not all doom and gloom for trail enthusiasts. Grant's Trail is scheduled to reopen on June 5. Just remember to stay on the marked path and not to cross the barriers and fencing that will be installed for your safety. The construction zone is no place for a detour, no matter how scenic it might appear to be. So, whether you're driving or walking in the area, remember to plan ahead and remain vigilant to ensure your route remains as smooth as possible.
