The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced plans for nighttime road work that will add fresh stripes to two major highways. Expect to see crews out on Interstates 44 and 70 starting from June 2, taking care to paint within the lines to ensure clearer and safer travels.
The work will span multiple counties along the stretches of I-44 through Laclede, Pulaski, Phelps, and Crawford, as well, I-70 in Cooper, Boone, and Callaway. These nocturnal operations will unfold Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., offering relief to daytime commuters, but authorities are warning nighttime travelers to prepare for potential delays. MoDOT pointedly notes that this is all "weather permitting and subject to change."
Drivers sharing the road with striping crews are advised to take extra care. MoDOT crews will be part of slow-moving convoys marked with flashing lights, arrow boards, and “Wet Paint” signs. Motorists should reduce speed, change lanes with caution, and allow freshly painted lines time to dry. This helps prevent paint splatter and ensures crisp, long-lasting lane markings. Safety remains the top priority.
While MoDOT is working to limit disruptions to daytime traffic, they’re calling on the public to do their part in keeping roads safe. Drivers are urged to buckle up, put their phones down, obey all traffic signs, and slow down and move over in work zones.
