Commuters who frequent U.S. Route 65 through Livingston and Carroll Counties should prepare for delays as a new resurfacing project is about to take the stage. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has tapped Capital Paving and Construction, LLC for the task, set to start on May 19. The effort will span the stretch from U.S. Route 36 in Chillicothe to just south of Route CC in Carrollton. MoDOT announced the upcoming disruptions, urging motorists to plan for potential slowdowns.
During the resurfacing, Route 65 will shed a lane, narrowing to one as flaggers orchestrate the flow of traffic through the work zone. A 12-foot width restriction will be put in place, undoubtedly squeezing through larger vehicles. Kicking off in late spring, this project hangs up its hat by mid-October, provided Mother Nature plays nice and foregoes throwing any tempestuous tantrums that would shift the schedule.
It's not just the asphalt getting attention; the contractor is currently doubling down on curb and entrance repairs along Route 65, from Second Street to Business U.S. 36 in Chillicothe. These touch-ups are part and parcel of a different, but related, project that's already in motion.
And with roadwork, there comes the reminder to embrace safety like a long-lost friend: "MoDOT asks drivers to work with us by always buckling up, keeping your phones down, slowing down and moving over in work zones," as per MoDOT's press release. The inevitability of construction season is upon us, and with it, the shared responsibility to ensure we all get where we're going – albeit a tad slower than usual.
