Monroe County, Michigan, became the epicenter of a tense confrontation between law enforcement and an armed suspect late Saturday night, with the chase resuming in the light of Sunday morning. According to CBS Detroit, Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call just before midnight on Saturday, with the caller reporting a gunpoint confrontation and subsequent foot chase in the West 10th Street and Bacon Street area, abruptly disconnecting the call before further details could be shared.

The initial attempt to locate the caller proved fruitless, and during a search of the area, one deputy, identified by Monroe County Reporters as Deputy Samantha Pitzen, encountered two individuals and attempted to pat down one suspect after observing a heavy object in his pocket, the suspect evaded the deputy, leading to a foot chase through yards and over fences until he was found hiding on a porch in the 1000 block of Bacon Street by Deputy Pitzen and Deputy Hall.

While the suspect, a 31-year-old man from Monroe, was arrested without further incident, the weapon he was suspected of carrying was not found on him at the time of arrest. As reported by WTOL, officials opted to pause the search for the firearm overnight, resuming efforts with the break of dawn.

On Sunday morning, Deputy Danny Greenwood and his K9 partner Arlo, assisted by Deputy Lance Shields, returned to the vicinity; their persistence paid off, eventually discovering a loaded firearm in the backyard of a residence within the 600 block of West 10th Street, the same residence where the suspect had been seen vaulting a privacy fence during the chase, according to Monroe County Reporters, the weapon was seized and will undergo testing at the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for evidentiary analysis.

Currently detained at the Monroe County Jail, the unnamed suspect faces charges of resisting and obstructing, with additional charges under consideration by the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office pending a forthcoming arraignment hearing in Monroe County First District Court.
