Blas Villa, 41, earned himself one-and-a-half decades in federal prison after entering a guilty plea for possession with the intent to distribute these life-shattering substances.
For the residents of San Luis Valley, Villa's activities were a known scourge. Spanning across three incidents in 2023, he managed to amass nearly a pound of pure methamphetamine and thousands of pills potent with fentanyl. His August 2023 arrest at a Monte Vista property yielded an array of incriminating items, including drugs, a handgun, multiple cell phones, and a sizable amount of cash. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a glimpse into Villa's phone revealed a dire portrait painted with images of firearms and fentanyl pills, paired with a pill-counting app. But the narrative doesn't end there. Even after bonding out, Villa couldn't evade his illicit patterns and found himself in handcuffs again, come November and December the same year.
With fifteen prior convictions in tow, including several felonies, Villa's reputation as a serial offender was well established. Acting United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, J. Bishop Grewell, pointed to this history in stating, "Mr. Villa is a serial offender," praising the collaborative law enforcement efforts that led to his conviction.
