Several public safety professionals from Montgomery County were recently honored for their exemplary service, displaying bravery and quick thinking in life-threatening situations. According to a social media post from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Sheriff Jose Ventura, CEO for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), and MCPS staff saved lives by responding to a crisis at Magruder High School.

Also recognized were Deputy Sheriffs Dwayne Joseph and Carlos Marrero-Rivera for their critical intervention in a scenario involving a resident with a mental health crisis, armed with a handgun. Thanks to their proactive strategy and compassion, they could de-escalate the situation and safely transport the individual to a hospital, ensuring community safety.

Another incident the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office highlighted involved Sergeant Frank Pruitt Jr. and Deputy Shane Scott. They managed a tense situation with a suicidal individual isolated on a rooftop. Displaying courage, the officers climbed to the rooftop, initiated a conversation, and successfully helped the person to safety for immediate medical care. "The deputies concerned for the resident’s welfare courageously climbed the ladder to the rooftop, engaged in conversation and safely assisted the resident to the ground where FRS provided immediate medical care," the social media announcement noted.
