Over the past weekend, the Naperville Police Department dealt with two large-scale disturbances involving young adults and teenagers. According to ABC7 Chicago, the first occurrence was on Friday evening, when approximately 200 individuals were said to be disrupting the downtown area. During this event, a 15-year-old girl from Aurora was arrested on charges including aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
Continuing the unrest, Saturday night witnessed a gathering of about 100 people engaging in reckless driving and setting off fireworks on the northeast side of Naperville, as reported by NBC Chicago. Actions throughout the weekend resulted in multiple citations, and a 20-year-old McHenry man was arrested for reckless driving, among other charges. Naperville authorities have stated, "Our officers will be highly visible in areas where people typically congregate and there will be zero tolerance for trespassing, disorderly conduct, fighting, or any behavior that puts others at risk."
Law enforcement representatives have assured that they will increase police presence in downtown Naperville and at special events to prevent disruptive actions, aiming to maintain a safe environment for all residents and visitors. "You will likely notice more Naperville Police officers in our downtown, at special events, and around other highly populated areas throughout the city to help prevent disruptive behavior and encourage a safe, welcoming environment for all," the Naperville Police expressed in a statement obtained by ABC7 Chicago.
