In the early hours of a recent operation targeting illegal street racing, Nashville authorities arrested three teenage girls following a high-speed pursuit. The Metro Nashville Police Department detailed the event wherein a white Ford Mustang was seen undertaking perilous stunts at a gathering on Trousdale Drive. Aided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol Aviation unit, law enforcement tracked the vehicle as it evaded police twice before finally pulling over at a gas station.
The driver, 19-year-old Melanie Serrano Sanabria of Gallatin, and her passengers, Gabriela Lopez-Naranjo, 18, and Camila Paolini-Jerez, 19, could not escape the consequences of their nighttime escapade. Although the Mustang fled with the determination lit by youthful fire, it was alcohol that was found inside the vehicle, revealing more than just a propensity for speed.
Sanabria now faces multiple charges, including inciting a riot, lacking a driver's license, unlawful alcohol possession, and evading arrest, with the bond set at $38,000. Lopez-Naranjo and Paolini-Jerez were charged similarly with inciting a riot and unlawful alcohol possession. Additionally, according to the report from Nashville authorities, Paolini-Jerez is also dealing with an outstanding domestic assault charge from the previous year. Bonds for Lopez-Naranjo stand at $6,000, and $10,000 for Paolini-Jerez.
The arrests come as part of a larger initiative by the MNPD Traffic Division to clamp down on street racing in the area, which has been linked to property damage and potential harm to public safety.
