On Thursday afternoon, Nashville law enforcement officials made an arrest that potentially averted more significant criminal activity. Tongai Davidson, a 21-year-old man with outstanding warrants related to domestic violence and vandalism, was captured after a vehicular stop evolved into a foot chase. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department website, Davidson was a passenger in a Nissan Rogue when detectives performed the stop at the intersection of Gallatin Pike and Madison Street. When approached, Davidson attempted to escape by foot but was quickly detained by the Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives.

The apprehension of Davidson also led to the discovery of several illegal items. Found in possession of a handgun modified with a Glock switch, Davidson was carrying a weapon converted to fully automatic capacity. An additional search of the vehicle unearthed a black backpack, which Davidson admitted he owned; within it, authorities found a second handgun, marijuana prepared for distribution, a digital scale, and a modest sum of money - $104 cash in total. Charged with gun possession during the commission of a felony, eviction of a prohibited weapon, felony drug possession, and evading arrest, Davidson now faces a $78,000 bond, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

During the same incident, another passenger in the car, Malachi Lawson, was also brought into custody. At the age of 20, Lawson was already familiar with the criminal justice system, having been convicted of robbery in Sumner County in the previous year of 2023. In his possession, detectives discovered a handgun, leading to charges of felon in possession of a handgun. Under these new charges, Lawson's bond has been set at $2,500, and he continues to be held in jail, as per the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
