Over the weekend, a high-stakes chase initiated by the Nashville Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old accused murderer Rico Ransom. Ransom, who was on bond and subject to ankle monitoring, was apprehended after fleeing from police while armed with a rifle. The series of events unfolded after detectives noted a black Dodge Challenger committing several traffic violations before idling at a gas station for an extended period of time.
According to the Nashville Metro Police Department's news release, the situation quickly escalated when Ransom attempted to speed away as detectives moved in, leading them to deploy a spike strip to impede his vehicle. The pursuit didn't stop there; Ransom was determined to completely evade capture, continuing his flight even after his tires were deflated and throwing an AR-style pistol from the vehicle during the chase. The pursuit came to an end near Britt Place, where Ransom fled on foot into a wooded area but was swiftly arrested by detectives.
Following his capture, Ransom now faces charges including two counts of felony evading, felony gun possession, and driving on a revoked license. A judicial commissioner has set his bond at $28,000. This is not Ransom's first encounter with the law, as he is scheduled for a court appearance on June 5th for a first-degree murder indictment relating to the 2019 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Steven Shelton on 26th Avenue North.
