This annual push comes in response to a troubling average: 650 lives lost in the U.S. to boating-related mishaps, many of which could have simply been prevented with the right gear. As per a recent proclamation by the City of Sarasota, experts highlight the significance of life jackets and engine cutoff switches to make waves safer for everyone.
Taking the helm of this initiative is the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC), which has ceaselessly worked since 1958 to possibly prevent every boater from becoming just another statistic. They've been piloting programs focusing on education, outreach, and training to instill boating safety as a fundamental practice, rather than an afterthought.
During the recognition ceremony, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 84 stood as the face of this commitment to maritime caution, taking the proclamation to heart. Their presence embodies a larger community's dedication to turning the tides on boating accidents.
