On a recent Thursday evening, detectives from the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau of New Bedford Police Department had their hands full with two substantial arrests stemming from separate incidents of suspected illegal activities. According to a social media post from the New Bedford Police Department, the detectives were first alerted to suspicious behavior in the vicinity of the Blue Meadows housing development last Thursday.

During the surveillance operation, investigators came across a parked vehicle with multiple occupants. Upon further inspection, they noticed a juvenile attempting to hide a cross-body bag that was later found to hold a loaded Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine. Det. Jacob Rebello apprehended the individual, who was then held on $10,000 bail. "The juvenile was taken into custody and held on $10,000 bail," emphasized the official statement from the City of New Bedford Police Department's post.

Shorty after that incident, detectives had eyes on Hathaway Road's hotel parking lot where they observed what appeared to be a drug deal. Acting on their observations, officers trailed and stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Nauset Street and Mt. Pleasant Street. The car search yielded over 41 grams of crack cocaine and a sum of $1,914, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Norman Silva, 25, of 157 Hathaway St., was arrested by Det. David Wallant and now faces cocaine trafficking charges.

The police department invites anyone with information regarding these incidents to reach out, offering avenues for anonymous tips. "If you have any information you would like to give the police, you can do so anonymously by calling 508-99-CRIME or visiting our website and submitting a tip," the New Bedford Police Department said in their outreach to the public. New Bedford law enforcement continues to encourage community involvement to assist in their ongoing efforts to curb crime.
