The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), together with Johnson Construction, has wrapped up a significant roadwork project in New Castle. A new multilane roundabout at the intersection of US Highway 6 and Castle Valley Road aims to ease traffic flow and enhance safety for all travelers. This development comes as part of a broader 10-year plan targeting improvements throughout Garfield County, as reported by CDOT.
The initiative also entailed a 3/4 turn movement intersection at Castle Valley Boulevard and New Castle Plaza access. For the welfare of those on foot and two wheels, the installation of rapid flashing beacons has been added to the roundabout. Additionally, the project upgraded the area's drainage, lighting, and utility systems. Paving work included tackling the on and off ramps at the New Castle interchange, Exit 105, with the eastbound on-ramp having been completed the previous year.
CDOT has been proactive in communicating with the public, urging travelers to stay informed about the latest road conditions and weather forecasts. This is especially crucial with construction and the alteration of familiar roadways. They suggest making use of various resources such as the COtrip.org website, the COtrip Planner app, and subscribing to travel alerts to prepare for any potential disruptions on the road.
