Starting today, the 5000 and 5100 blocks of Frenchmen Street in New Orleans will undergo construction as part of a street improvement project. The City of New Orleans and RNGD Construction, LLC, will close the southbound lane for approximately two weeks to complete mill and overlay work, as per the City of New Orleans release.

This work includes improvements such as enhanced drainage, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and resurfaced sidewalks. The full project is expected to be completed in fall.

During construction, southbound traffic will be detoured via Timoleon Street to Elysian Fields Avenue or Selma Street to Elysian Fields Avenue. Barricades and signage will be in place to assist drivers and pedestrians.

As per the same release, residents can stay informed by texting "ROADWORK" to 77295 or visiting ready.nola.gov/alerts. For additional questions, the Department of Public Works can be reached at 504-658-7623 or by email at [email protected].

Since May 2018, the city has completed 225 infrastructure projects valued at $1.2 billion. Currently, 33 active projects totaling approximately $436 million are underway.
