A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to federal drug and firearm charges. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 38-year-old Floyd Jones admitted to distributing methamphetamine and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. His sentencing is scheduled for August 5.

Jones faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison for the drug charges, along with a potential $5 million fine. The firearm charge carries up to 15 additional years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is also required to pay a $100 special assessment fee.

The charges stem from two incidents in July and August 2024, when Jones distributed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and sold a loaded nine-millimeter pistol, despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior conviction.

The case was prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which focuses on reducing violent crime through coordinated law enforcement efforts. Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell led the prosecution, with support from both federal and local agencies.
