In North Las Vegas, education has received a progressive boost as Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown alongside the City Council recognized outstanding local educators through the "Innovative Teaching Awards." The initiative, now in its third year, singles out teachers who have gone beyond the traditional methods, bringing creativity and engagement to their classrooms, as reported by the City of North Las Vegas.
The selection process involved school administrators choosing from their staff, resulting in 28 educators receiving the honor. Each recipient was acknowledged not only with the award but also a monetary gift, underscoring the city's commitment to not only praising but also incentivizing innovation in education. According to an announcement by the City of North Las Vegas, this program aims to support and retain talented teachers, a concern which plagues many school districts nationwide.
Former educator and now Mayor Goynes-Brown expressed a deep understanding of the dedication needed in the profession. "As a former educator, I know the heart and innovation it takes to truly reach students," Mayor Goynes-Brown said, adding, "Honoring our teachers through the Innovative Teaching Awards is our way of saying, 'thank you and we appreciate you.'" This sentiment reflects a broader appreciation for teachers who often undertake their roles without expectation of recognition or reward, as stated by the City of North Las Vegas.
