Officers were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. following reports of active shooting, and as of early Monday the investigation remained ongoing with the scene still active.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the shooting after 911 calls reported gunfire in the area, according to FOX5 Vegas. Two victims were transported to local hospitals, though their injuries and current conditions have not been made public. Police have not said what led to the shooting, and it remains unclear whether it stemmed from a dispute inside one of the apartment complexes that line the block or a confrontation that spilled onto the street.
A Block With a Troubled Past
The 400 block of East Twain Avenue sits just east of the Las Vegas Strip between Paradise Road and Palos Verdes Street, an area packed with multi-family apartment complexes, according to the Las Vegas Sun. That density has made the corridor a frequent scene for serious police calls over the years, and Sunday's shooting adds to a pattern that has drawn repeated law enforcement attention to this exact stretch of road.
In January, a stabbing on the same block hospitalized two people and left one victim in critical condition, according to KTNV Channel 13. Two years before that, in February 2024, LVMPD homicide detectives arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing inside an apartment on the block, an arrest that investigators linked to three violent attacks in the vicinity, per the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The block also drew national attention in May 2021, when investigators located the body of missing 2-year-old Amari Nicholson near an apartment complex there, a case that ended with murder charges after a suspect confessed to police, as reported by True Crime News.
Past Standoffs Have Shut Down the Street
Police have had to lock down the corridor before. In November 2019, a SWAT barricade situation unfolded on the block after an assault with a deadly weapon, forcing officers to temporarily close Twain Avenue between Paradise Road and Palos Verdes Street, the Las Vegas Sun reported at the time. More recently, in December 2025, an LVMPD officer-involved shooting occurred nearby along West Twain Avenue and South Valley View Boulevard after a suspect fled a traffic stop in an unregistered vehicle, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The timing of Sunday's shooting is notable given that just one day earlier, on Saturday, LVMPD's South Central Area Command held a public outreach event and community farmers market at 860 East Twain Avenue, according to the department's South Central Area Command. The corridor falls under the joint coverage of LVMPD's South Central Area Command and its Convention Center Area Command, which together patrol the transition zone between dense residential blocks and the adjacent resort corridor, per the department.

If police identify a shooter and make an arrest, Nevada law treats battery with a deadly weapon as a Category B felony carrying a mandatory prison sentence of 2 to 10 years, a penalty that can rise to 15 years if the victim suffers substantial bodily harm, under Nevada Revised Statutes § 200.481. No arrests had been announced as of early Monday, and it remains unknown whether LVMPD homicide or gang units have taken over the investigation.
This marks at least the second shooting Hoodline has reported near this Strip-adjacent corridor this year, following a June incident at an apartment complex near Paradise Road and Twain Avenue that left one person wounded. Police have not said whether Sunday's shooting is connected to any prior incidents on the block. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information has not yet been directed to a specific tip line by police.
