
The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami set the stage for a tribute to Haitian culture with its 'Women of Excellence' event yesterday, serving as a prelude to the vibrant 27th Annual Haitian Compas Festival. WSVN reports that the event was held at NoMI Village in North Miami.
With the festival set for tomorrow, the administrative director of the festival, Dr. Evrose Noel, shed light on the event's significance, telling WSVN, “The Haitian Compas Festival is a movement. We’ve been here, It reflects solidarity of the community that we’re able to come together, especially honoring our Haitian flag, while showcasing the amazing talent in the Haitian Compas industry." Meanwhile, State Rep. Marie Paule Woodson emphasized the importance of representing their resilience and impact within the community.
Ahead of the weekend's main event, a constellation of influential women was honored for their contributions to the community. Among the celebrated were Commissioner Marleine Bastien, Dr. Shirley Plantin, singer Rutshelle Guillaume, and many others, signaling their role as community-shapers and generational inspirations.
