The Metropolitan Police Department revealed the apprehension of a young man in connection with a spate of robberies that terrorized parts of D.C. last year. Rashad Ervin, 17, from Northeast, D.C., has been charged as an adult with multiple counts, including five instances of Armed Robbery with a gun, according to an official release by MPD.
Ervin was arrested on Tuesday, under a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. The charges laid against him are tied to harrowing episodes on December 2, 2024, where victims were confronted by armed assailants who demanded and sometimes forcibly took their possessions. The young suspect's alleged involvement in these incidents has ignited conversations on social media about the city's efforts to curb juvenile crime.
Among the cited offenses is an armed robbery that occurred early in the morning on the 600 block of 10th Street, Northeast, where three suspects brandished handguns at a victim. That incident, alongside others on streets such as East Capitol Street, Burke Street, and I Street, marked that December day with fear for many in the community. They culminated in a total of seven separate events, each echoing the others in their violent demand for the personal belongings of the victims.
