As the sun climbs higher and Ohioans start to migrate outdoors, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control has issued a timely reminder about the state's alcohol laws. This notice comes just as residents begin dusting off their patio furniture and venues across the state gear up for a season of al fresco dining and social events within designated community spaces known as Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas, or DORAs.
With community events on the horizon and the pull of the open sky calling, it's easy to forget that Ohio has specific rules about where it's legal to drink. The state wants to ensure that while people are sipping their beers or cocktails under the warmth of an Ohio sky, they are doing so within the confines of the law the Division Superintendent Jacqueline DeGenova conveyed the importance of adhering to these laws to guarantee the public can relish a secure and pleasant summer "Warmer temperatures and outdoor gatherings are perfect for enjoying everything Ohio has to offer," DeGenova said in a statement obtained by the Ohio Department of Commerce. "We urge everyone to follow state laws and make responsible choices when it comes to alcohol consumption."
The state's message is clear: the rise in mercury shouldn't lead to a fall in public safety and decorum. Whether it's a beer with friends around a patio table or a glass of wine at a community event, officials are stressing that responsible consumption is key. Ohio's DORAs are designed to permit outdoor drinking within certain boundaries, but there are regulations that patrons must abide by to make sure these areas remain enjoyable for all.
As patios unfold their umbrellas and people start flocking to outdoor tables, local businesses are also being reminded of their role in upholding the law, ensuring they are not serving alcohol beyond their designated areas or to already intoxicated individuals, is a critical responsibility carried by these businesses. "By doing so, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for all," DeGenova added, as per Ohio Department of Commerce, reinforcing that the enjoyment of Ohio's public spaces is a collective effort, it's a sentiment that echoes through the bustling streets and quiet corners of Ohio's varied landscapes, from the charged atmosphere of city squares to the tranquil retreats that dot the state's many suburbs and rural areas.
